  1. I have a torn plantar fascia on my right foot. I've tried the cortozone injections, but it's a painful solution. I don't have the insurance to cover the cost for surgery, and my doctor has recommended that I get a pair of fitted orthotics. Does anyone know if this will help my plantar fascia heal?

  2. I've torn my plantar fascia a few years back & I really hate going to the doctor for the same diagnosis, plus it get's pretty expensive for surgery. I've just been wearing custom orthotics for the past few years, but they've gotten pretty worn out. Does anyone know if they can be repaired?

  4. What are some symptoms of plantar fasciitis?

Typically, plantar fasciitis pain is felt on the underside of the heels and/or arches of the foot. Symptoms of plantar fasciitis can include a sharp, stabbing pain in the bottom part of your heel as well as mild swelling in your heel. Plantar fasciitis pain is normally felt with the first steps of the day (because the plantar fascia normally contracts during inactivity), and the pain may tend to lessen throughout the day. Pain may also be felt during long periods of standing or walking on hard surfaces, or during activities requiring walking on your tip toes or balls of your feet. Plantar fasciitis pain is often more noticeable after long periods of inactivity (i.e. sitting, sleeping). Without proper care, plantar fasciitis may also lead to ankle, knee and lower back pain due to changes in walking patterns caused by the plantar fasciitis pain.

    What can cause plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by undue stress or overload of the plantar fascia. Typical causes are flat feet, abnormally high arches, being overweight, having tight calves that limit the motion of your ankles, shoes lacking proper foot support and increased or abnormal activity without proper stretching. Such conditions can cause undue tension on the plantar fascia, resulting in small tears to the connective tissue itself. Continued tension may cause the plantar fascia to become irritated and/or inflammed.

What are some treatments for plantar fasciitis?

Proper stretching of your feet before you get out of bed and after long periods of inactivity can help alleviate the pain. Night splints (a device that reduces the contraction of the plantar fascia while you sleep) are also effective. Custom orthotics that properly support your arches and distribute pressure on your feet evenly are also recommended. For more severe cases of plantar fasciitis, injections of corticosteroids and/or surgery may be necessary. You should always consult a licensed practitioner if you feel that you have a severe case of plantar fasciitis.

How can custom orthotics help with plantar fasciitis?

Custom orthotics are the preferred treatment by Podiatrists (foot doctors) for treating plantar fasciitis. Unlike over-the-counter arch supports, custom orthotics are made to the shapes of your feet and of high quality materials that are designed to specifically control biomechanical factors. Custom fitted orthotics are made of semi-rigid materials that help support the arch to reduce unnecessary tension on the plantar fascia. Custom fitted orthotics are balanced to help distribute pressure evenly throughout the foot, releiving pressure on your arches. Custom made orthotics also come with various levels of cushioning layers to help absorb shock and reduce pain on the heel and arches.

  5. i've been a delivery driver for over 10 years but over the past few months, my feet have been starting to hurt on & off. I've been doing a little research here & there & i seem to have the typical symptoms (stiffness in my feet generally in the morning, at times, the pain will flare up when I'm climbing stairs, etc...). I usually start to feel the pain in the ball of my foot, but later on in the day seems to travel to my arches. I haven't been able to see a doctor yet, but i was wondering if it's possible if I injured my plantar fascia & if so, is there any way for it to heal completely over time, like if I didn't put a lot of stress on my feet? Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  9. The use of narcotic medication to treat body pain is a common practice for many physicians and other health care providers. Narcotics are effective at relieving many types of pain, and are safe if properly used. The use of narcotics to treat severe foot pain is a practice that still enjoys some popularity, primarily amongst non-foot specialists.

  10. On the whole, the feet are very small when compared to the rest of the body. During the day, most people spend about 12 to 14 hours on their feet. Because the feet are used so much during normal daily activity, the excessive loads that are placed on the feet mean approximately 75% of people worldwide will suffer foot pain at some stage in their lives. Foot pain can also reduce your mobility and independence, as is often seen in the elderly. When your feet hurt, it not only disturbs your body but it can prove to be distracting to your work and concentration.
