  1. I've been starting to feel pain under the arch of my foot (it's not too painful, but at times does hurt). I've been doing some research & it seems like it's plantar fasciitis, but i'm not too positive. I bought some some $20 dollar insoles, but it doesn't seem to be helping that much. I don't have insurance, so I really can't afford to go to the doctor for a professional opinion, but can anyone suggest anything.

  2. Lately, when it gets cold, my ankles start to hurt. I've always thought it's due to weather changes, but i'm not too sure. Does anyone else go through this & if so, what can I do to stop this (other than wearing additional socks). Thanks in advance.

  3. I am an avid fencer and compete nationally. My traditional fencing shoes are giving me problems in certain areas (i.e. the inner/upper edge of my left foot, the outer/lower edge of my right foot) due to my stance. Can you recommend anything that can provide extra padding in these areas?

  4. My wife and I are considering taking up walking for excercise and health. We are looking at investing in some high end walking shoes, but was interested in knowing if orthotic supports would help too? Please advise.

  5. Luis,

Fencing shoes are a lot like bicycling shoes. Their thin and narrow, and don't offer much along the lines of support or cushioning. I would recommend our heels orthotics, which have a wing cutout that are specifically designed to allow the devices to fit inside narrow shoes without sacrificing arch support. We can add an extended cushioning layer in the areas that you mentioned, to offer you extra padding in your stance.

I hope this answers your question! Should you have any further questions or needs, please don't hesitate to contact us!

  6. Charlie,

Orthotics are the preferred treatment by Podiatrist in dealing with foot pain such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, bunions, calluses, etc. Orthotics are also a good preventive measure to avoid such problems and issues, by promoting a more balanced, natural step and offering support and absorbing weight during motion.

If you are not currently suffering from foot pain and are just looking for something to offer additional support, we would suggest that you consult a physician first to see if you have any specific needs, before investing in a pair of custom orthotics.

  7. I seem to be having some type of pain in my right foot, even though my left foot seems fine. I'm planning on buying a pair of orthotics, but since I only have pain in one foot, would I still have to wear both orthotics?

  8. Jonathan,

Where are you feeling pain in your right foot? Is it in your arches, your heels, or the balls of your feet? Knowing this would better help us make a recommendation.

Regarding wearing orthotics in only one foot, you can do this if you like. However, we normally recommend wearing orthotics in both feet, as they are designed to work in conjunction with each other to support your feet and give you a more natural, balanced step. If you go with custom made orthotics, they will be tailored to your specific needs. This means that your right orthotic might have specific accommodations to address your pain issues, while your left orthotic won't have any accommodations.

We hope this answers your question. Should you have any further questions or needs, please don't hesitate to contact us!

  9. I have knee pain in both knees. It feels like it is directly behind my knee cap on both knees. This started when I was jogging about a year and a half a ago and has persisted, though not as bad, today even though I no longer run. However, I am avid snowboarder and when my knees become fatigued they will start aching. I have been seeing a chiropractor and he has prescribed Orthotics, but because they charge over $300 I have not been able to afford them. I also used to have severe hip pain but that has since gone away just by using over the counter orthotics. These inserts have also reduced my knee pain, but not entirely. Sometimes simple things like getting out of the car or climbing stairs I will feel tenderness in one of my knees. I sure hope you guys can recommend the right orthotic for me as I really don't have any foot pain just knee and hip pain.

  10. Dear Dave,

Thank you for your question! Knee, hip and lower back pain can be tied directly to problems in your feet. That’s because if your feet are misaligned, it throws off the natural balance of your step, which causes your knees, hips and lower back to over compensate.

As you’ve probably read on our website, Foot Shapers custom fitted orthotics are the exact same quality and craftsmanship as those prescribed by podiatrists (foot doctors) nationwide. That’s because our lab has been making custom orthotics for foot doctors for the past 20 years. Clients with your particular lifestyle and condition usually purchase our Dress orthotics. They provide ample support for your arches, plus include a full length layer of cushioning to absorb impact for those with a more active lifestyle.

We hope this answers your question! Should you have any further needs, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
